It's the subtle things

Captain John Hall

When fly fishing from a boat on a lake there are several key techniques and tips that will help to keep you focused and hook up when the moment is right!

First, try and get your fly out as far from the boat as quietly as you can. A longer rod, weight forward line, and proper rigging help, but working on your casting technique is important!

Second, keep as much slack out of the line as possible. Tight lines make it easier to indicate when you are getting a bite

Finally, keep the fly/jig moving...twitch it, imitating a small wounded minnow or leach.

With just these basic techniques, you should have much more success on your next lake adventure.
